Ekahau, tekVizion Team to Bring Location Services to VoIP Market
Location Tracking Using WiFi Handsets Supports
Emergency Services,
Intelligent Call Routing, and More
RICHARDSON, TX and SARATOGA, CA (Sept. 27, 2004)
– tekVizion™ PVS, Inc., the new standard for systems
integration, and Ekahau, Inc. announced today they have signed
a partnering agreement under which tekVizion will develop converged,
location-aware services for the voice over WiFi (VoWiFi) market
based on the Ekahau Positioning Engine™ (EPE).
Ekahau’s patented EPE system is a software based solution
that enables location tracking via any standard WiFi network (802.11a/b/g).
EPE is a highly accurate system that can get up to 1 meter accuracy
resolutions in indoor and campus environments.
In today’s increasingly mobile society, there is a growing
demand for location-based services including E911, intelligent
call routing, and voice-enabled asset tracking applications. Under
the agreement, tekVizion will develop services such as these for
its carrier and large enterprise customers.
Unlike competing technologies that require expensive proprietary
infrastructure on site, EPE is a software system that works with
any off-the-shelf WiFi access point and does not require proprietary
infrastructure. tekVizion will also make use of Ekahau Site Survey™
(ESS), which quickly and accurately records, visualizes, analyzes,
optimizes, and reports the performance of WiFi networks. ESS is
the ideal tool for verifying the coverage and performance of a
WiFi network when considering the deployment of VoWiFi services.
