INTEROPERABILITY at 3GSM World Congress

MobileIGNITE Members Showcase Interoperability at 3GSM World Congress

tekVizion’s Leland Phillips Named Interoperability Group Chair

Accuris, BroadSoft and sentitO Join Group Supporting Faster Convergence of Mobile and VoIP bringing membership to 33 companies.

CHICAGO – 9 FEBRUARY 2006 - MobileIGNITE, the leading industry association fostering collaboration to accelerate fixed-mobile convergence (FMC), today announced that it is showcasing MobileVoIP interoperability at 3GSM; has elected Leland Phillips, SVP of Strategic Alliance and Corporate Development at tekVizion as Chair of its Interoperability Group and has added three new members: Accuris, BroadSoft and sentitO.   MobileIGNITE stands for Mobile Integrated Go-To-Market Network IP Telephony Experience.

MobileIGNITE’s Interoperability Group, under the direction of Leland Phillips, will work to define common use cases, interoperability best practices and test cases from the baseline open standards on which FMC and other IMS-related applications are based.  Three key interoperability initiatives based on emerging standards in 3GPP and 3GPP2 were previously announced:

  • Interworking between mobile handsets and IMS networks for mobile to Wi-Fi/VoIP roaming and seamless voice call handover based  on emerging Voice Call Continuity standards in 3GPP and 3GPP2.
  • Interworking between mobile IMS networks (SS7 and IMS) and SIP-based IP Centrex applications.
  • Interworking of Presence and Messaging between mobile and broadband (SIP) environments.

“Being named chairman of MobileIGNITE’s Interoperability Group provides an excellent opportunity to focus on developing and delivering best practices that will accelerate the deployment of FMC and related IMS applications,” said Leland Phillips, SVP of Strategic Alliance and Corporate Development of tekVizion. “tekVizion will bring its unique, real-world expertise managing vendor-neutral SIP and IMS interoperability testing and systems integration to bear on behalf of MobileIGNITE.”

The new MobileIGNITE members have agreed to the group’s tenets of working on open standards-based interoperability and leveraging SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) with a commitment to IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem), the industry’s leading blueprint for convergence. The solutions and expertise each new member provides are described below.

  • Accuris supplies a highly configurable convergence gateway product for voice and data services that provides mobile and fixed network operators with a single user identity capability that enables seamless mobility across all network technologies.

  • BroadSoft creates VoIP application software that lets fixed and mobile service providers offer the most advanced calling features to their enterprise and residential customers. BroadSoft’s Mobile PBX application unlocks the enterprise market for mobile operators, combining the key ingredients of enterprise mobility and business-class voice, to deliver increased productivity in everyday communications. Mobile PBX is deployed now on today's networks and devices.
  • sentitO provides open and distributed VoIP gateway solutions for telecommunications service providers.  The Open Network Xchange (ONX) product portfolio performs voice and signaling conversion and enables the delivery of SIP-based network and subscriber services.

“Since November 9th, 2005, when MobileIGNITE became an independent organization with a transparent governance and new member election process, MOU membership has more than doubled from 16 to 33 companies. This rapid growth signals the importance of our FMC interoperability to the industry and also creates a critical mass for the interoperability committee,” said Sanjay Jhawar, the Chairman of MobileIGNITE’s Executive Steering Committee. “Leland Phillips of tekVizion is the ideal executive to lead the Interoperability Group, and greatly benefits from tekVizion’s collective experience of creating and managing productive, vendor neutral interoperability processes and programs.”
